		<description>I agree that the rates still need to come down Niamh. One of the reasons they are still high even for small firms is that insurance can cost €10,000-€15,000 for the year.</description>

My background is in the tech industry.  In Ireland, the very top end of IT consultants could charge E250 an hour.  Hourly rates would be unusual, because essentially it is unlikely you could do a quality personalised consultancy in less than a half day. 

In any case that is the very top end, the top 1%, highly qualified, 10+ years experience.

Supply and Demand essentially sets price.  In IT, skillset is the only barrier to entry.  What are the barriers to entry in the legal profession which allows them continue to charge these absolutely ridiculous rates. IMO totally inproportionate to the skillset!!</description>
